ere my diffs got a whole in it

i was tryin to fit my new steering guard before an noticed a big patch of black gunk on my diff, it was silocone an i stupidly picked it!!! noticed it had been welded underneath but all seemed to be ok, just went to check the car was locked etc an notice a huge puggle of diff oil thats drippin out now im not gonna have any left by the mornin but i could fill it up to limp somewhere but how do i go about fixin it without a welder? i was thinkin quick steel moulded on to the area to seal it? any ideas please???

untill the oil is drained and cleared off and the surface ground down, quick steel aint gonna solve it, or if anything it will only slow the leak down. half shafts out, diff out, is it the diff pan or the bottom part of the axle? you have either 3 options.........ill tow it to nortons for yer and split the weigh in, change the axle, or weld it up. bring it round tomoz and ill have a look for yer.

You might not be able to do all this where you are but when you get it somewhere you can work on it I'd suggest this solution (I did this to mine about 3 years ago):

1. drain oil.
2. wire drill all rusty crap off around hole(s).
3. ku rust any rusty bits.
4. get some bridging compound (the stuff that's got fibre strands in it, for bridging holes in bodywork). Stevens I think I used. I gave it a good 6 mm covering if not more and tapered it out to the sides.
5. bridge the hole(s) giving a good overlap. I blended mine in over the whole bottom of the round diff pan thing, looked not bad even if I do say so myself.
6. paint it.

Like I say it's been good for 3 years, maybe 4 although I seem to remember being mocked about this at some point so I'm risking some more stick

Found That The Leak Was An Old Repair, A 3"x3" Plate Had Been "welded" Onto The Diff, The Oil Was Coming From One Of The Seams, I Scrubbed The Area With Hot Soapy Water, Drill Brushed The Whole Area, Grinded The Dodgy Welding Smooth And Used Quicksteel Round The Seams, Smoothed It Down With A Wet Finger To Get A Good Join An Hey Hey It Seems To Have Done The Trick. Pity I Got A Piece Of Grinder Metal In My Eye (no I Didnt Use My Goggles) And Spent The Night In Hospital Gettin It Sorted Out Haha Made Sure My Lanny Was Fixed First Though
