Yep bulkhead around the vents below front windscreen, chassis particularly at the rear - take a big screwdriver or hammer with you when you view to give it a good bash, make sure it's solid and not being held together with underseal.
Other than that just normal stuff you would look for on a car - gearbox (whines crunches etc) check engine for excessive smoke - all Tdi smoke black on start up but should clear straight away, make sure it pulls well and doesn't show any signs of hesitancy or limiting.

Yep true - do you know someone who owns one who would let you have a go? It's good to drive as many as you can before you take the plunge, as in my experience they all drive differently, it's just finding one you like which is the tricky part :D

no unfortunately not, and ye will do mate in no rush got my pride and joy in the garage atm having work done so wont be buy just yet until I see the bill :eek:, just gathering info and advice first.
