My chassis is preaty rotton now might have to re-chassis it. Ive got a discovery engine and gear box in it atm, and if i re-chassis it i want to put a defender gear box in so it all fits nicly. Can i fit a TD5 defender R380, to a discovery 200tdi engine, using a discovery 300tdi-R380 clutch housing to mate them up? Will that all fit on a 200tdi defender chassis with out moving mounts?

Come on guys i know theres some experts on here, any pointers would be great. :D

Rich.

if you're buying a new chassis have a word with the manufacturer, they will have all measurements relating to engine gearbox mounts, probably wouldn't cost too much to get one specially made, only talking different mounts

Am patching it up now, will do for a while. Had to do some quite extensive surgery so far, still more to go. :(

that looks pretty good compared to some of the bird **** welding i've seen in the past!
A td5 box will be no good as the input shaft is about a mile long compared to others. if you fit a 300 defender r380 you will have to move the engine forward as the bellhousing and shaft is the same length as the disco ones. or you get a short bellhousing conversion for an r380 but this is expensive.
or just get a recon defender lt77 and it will fir ur 200 and be in all the right positions.

Looks like good enough welding to me, I have seen so called PROFESSIONAL welders work, and it was the sort of stuff I did when I first picked up a STICK WELDER; I couldn't see how it was possible for the welding to be so bad considering it was MIGed.

With regard to your engine gearbox query, the R380 from a TD5 will want the 200TDI much further forward, as the 300TDI was laid out. I have an R380 with a short bell housing in my 90 which meant I did not need to change a thing and got the far superior R380 box.

What you could do is move the 200tdi forward, that would not be a problem, and run a long bell housed R380.
