I've finally got round to putting a leccy fan on my 88. I run a 82C thermostat but not sure what temperature to set the fan at or where to measure the temperature.

I've been measuring temperature with one of those infra red laser pointer temp sensors. When the temp-guage on the dash is reading where it normally does the sensor is saying the rad is at 97C and the block at 100C...been driving it like that for ages.

For now I've set it "low" for safety but not sure what a good temperature is or where to best measure it.

Any advice?

Was very nice having the heater come on before I'd got home though....

Something dont sound right there....100c is very hot...either your dash gauge is giving you a false reading or the hand held one is,

I have one of those temp meters....very handy tool....have you got an old style thermometer to stick into the rad to see what the water temp is when your engine is giving those reading.

Nick.

I'll test the handheld thing by pointing it into a boiling kettle. The dash temp guage is pretty unreliable. On the plus side I've driven about 50 miles since fitting it and its not sicked up any water yet...bloody good having the heater work quickly though and I reckon it'll save a good bit of fuel not driving on the choke most of the time.

Next up is to fit the heat shield thing round the carb which should also help warm the fanimolds up a bit quicker too.
