hi, ive got a 300tdi of which the head gasket blew so i took the head off last weekend planning to get it skimmed and put back together! wrong- on closer inspection two of the pistons are a bit worse for wear, anyway cutting a long story short ive brought another engine and was just wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice on swapping them over as i have never removed an engine from a vehicle before. any advice would be greatly appreciated

going by youve taken head off sussed a prob wi yer ****ed ons sounds like yer handy wi a spanner and thammer follow yer nose get a good engine lift no rush be carefull and its a good learning curve:)

ive never taken engine out of a landy done yer usual escorts and cavaliers and so on,i would imagine with rad out and maybe visc fan there would be room to take it forward enough to lift out wi out fookin abart wi gearbox im told theyre feckin heavy

sounds good to me, ive got a telehandler to lift the engine out with

i'd take it very easy with the telehandler :D
should come out ok take all the bits off you can (not the injecter pump) would get a new clutch too while you got it out save doing the whole prosesse again next year ;)

Hi Andy

As has been said already take your time use an engine, Reove the rad and unbolt the gearbox first and put a jack under the bellhousing, both engine mountings and disconnect the throttle cable and any parts of the wirng loom still attached.
