Hello to all you landie fans out there.

Please can you give me a bit of advice on an engine swap on a series 3 landie, I would like to know if the present 2.25 diesel engine can be replaced with a later 2.5 naturally aspirated engine & what needs to be
changed/altered/replaced, I know that whatever changes occur I will have to notify the dvla & my insurance company of them.

Any help & advice will be gratefully received

Thank you.

Hiya,

I did this swap on mine, straight swap, well it was on mine (2.5 NA Sherpa lump) only thing that needed modding was the battery tray as the inj pump sits higher on the Sherpa lump.

Engine mounts, bellhousing, clutch all straight swap. The 2.5 may come with a vacumn pump, if you dont have a servo just put a bolt into the end of the pipe to blank it off, also may come with an oil cooler, either mount the rad somewhere or get local Hydraulic pipe people to make up an out and back pipe for you.

of course i would sir .... they are proper ****e ... they sound good , like a v8 but striaghter and with less pistones ... they dont like runnin hot and they do about 10 to the gallon if ya drive like miss daisey ...... and they is prone to head gaskit troublems .... i think thats covered that dont you ??

10 miles a gallon
think thats exagerating a bit even with todays fookin prices
dont get me started on petrol prices aaaaaaaaaaaa

there you go one 6 pot 109 ..... good motor apart from the engine .... shame ...

i could'nt agree more , relaxed and powerful , but my god it wer thirsty .... ended up with a cracked block and all sorts of dramas ..... it was in good nick bodywise tho i have to say . infact i bought the doors and seat base back off the lad that broke it and theys on me 90 ....

I have recently done this, swapped the stock engine for a 2.5 Turbo Diesel engine from a early 110, engine mountings need modified for a perfect fit, also drivers side mounting member needed abit griding away but its woth doing of you ask me.

did you do this conversion yourself. i fancy doing it as my diesel is crap.

Fitting a 2.5N/A to my Series atm. Battery Tray needs removing and relocating(under passenger seat)
O/S Engine Mount needs cutting off, I used one off of the 2.5on the engine and the one from the 2.25 fitted upside down welded to the chassis.
Need to do electrics to fuel cut off solenoid as 2.5 is electric and 2.25 uses stop cable.
I'm fitting a raised air intake with a 200tdi air filter.
Bellhousing needed a bit of modification to the inner lip, but I've heard that it's normally a straight bolt in job.
Haven't done the exhaust yet.

Cider,

Yes did the swap myself, easy to do. Though I used a 2.5 Sherpa engine, I did have to modify the battery tray (raised it a bit) I never needed to modify engine mounts as it fitted perfect. I used the 2.2/4 exhaust and inlet manifold, these again bolted straight on allowing me to use the propper series exhaust.
