Does anyone know if its an easy enough job to swap the 1.8 k series for a 2ltr k series? would it just be a case of engine and ECU? Has it been done before?

go for the t series, need gearbox bellhousing from an 2 litre L series to mate to it.
no, powertrain made the k series engines
they made a 2 litre aswell
