engine start

sometimes my freelander td4 is hard to start, it sound like fuel starvation, engine turns over alright and tries to start wont but eventually it will and work normally for a few day and symptyoms return anybody got any ideas.

Is this the same TD4 with the smokey exhaust? If so this problem might have been better included in your other post. The more info you can give the better.

it a a td4 s x reg 2000 the milage is 158000.

When it does start is there any smoke?? Do you know if the glow plugs have been changed at all??

no smoke on start up and it hasnt had its glow plugs changed as far as i know do you think i should change them.

They are a good place to start. Do a search "td4 hard to start" and see what comes up. Quite a few people with your problem and various fixes but glow plugs can be a bit of a git to get out so read up first.Here is one to get you started.

Mine has the same problem, changed the glow plugs but still the same. Guy salmon in wakefield has had it in today and cant find a fault but want to take it in on thursday for two days to try and dig a little deeper (this is gona cost me) but i dont know any landrover guru's near me. Im in Barnsley so does anyone know of " THE MAN " near me please

since my recent problems with starting my freelander in frustration i went under the bonnet and grabbed hold of the fuel pump lift next to the filter gave it a a good bang and shake and it started:wtf:. weather this was coincidental i dont know but it starts ok now (touch wood) so i will be changing that for a new one and let you know how i get on. thought i would share that with you.

hi, my wifes td4 did the same some times started first turn then every so often nothing just kept turning and wouldn't fire up , put new relay on and works like new again

what sort of relay was that if you dont mind me asking mechanics is not my strong point but want to try that next if it happens again.

after swopping the pump still no joy had a conk out tonight so going to try fuel pump relay let you know how i get on, its due in on friday.

fuel pump relay in the fuse box did n't help still got same problem and getting harder to start. any ideas anyone.
