I've been looking at quotes for getting my 2.5 NA swaped for a 200tdi; trying to budget for a few jobs I want done next year (engine, full waxoyl, galv chassis).

Ive contacted a few places in the south west, and quotes have varied from £450 for engine and £600 for fitting to over £2k all in.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of the going rate, and any links to companies that they recommend to do an engine swap - any location.

Cheers

It's difficult to hazard a guess on averages for tdi's based on the donor engine, warranties etc. For someone who knows how to do one I'd say 2 days work plus the engine price which could be anything from £200 to £800 for Def version.

Your best bet would be to get a breakdown of the work being done & any warranty coverage...or consider doing it yourself.

Pauls right.
It will be dam sight cheaper if you do it yourself and not as hard as you imagine.
Got any helpers you can count on to help?
Get some time off.
Read lots of this:-http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/how-land-rover-90-td-discovery-200tdi-engine-conversion-90679.html

Have you contacted Land Rovers Uk. They have a very good set up and arent too far away from you.

I dont know what their prices are like for such a job, but they refurbed my doors recently and did a great job.

Youre right, they have a great rep; been down there a few times but not to the new place. Looking at over £2k for engine replacemrnt from them; no doubt its worth the money but its out of my budget....

Galv chassis won't need waxoyle. You can do your bulkhead inners yourself with a spray can.

Do it yourself.

You'll need to buy or rent an engine hoist, (wish I had bought one when I did my 200 TDI conversion now!) have access to some basic tools, a day or two and some determination - but it can easily be done.

Apart from saving you lots of cash (which could be spent on nice shiny bolt on bits :D) it is a fantastic learning experience - and once you've done one, if you ever want to do it again it will be second nature! :)
