Engine rebuild/replace?

Hi. Having bought a discovery4 3.0tdv6. just 3 weeks ago I have now had a catastrophic engine failure!
probably crankshaft related.
I actually bought the car on the ‘strength’ of it having a full engine rebuild shortly before I took it.

ironic as it’s the engine that is now toast.

anyway does anyone have any advice about whether (& where) to have it rebuilt or replaced ?
I live in the north east of England and have used Les Potts before for my V8’s but I know he’s not cheap (rightly so)
not sure if this is even viable spending the money on it - to sell on as spares or repair.
the car itself is almost immaculate 2010 HSE. Bournville colour and everything works - the engine, which sounds incredible in a bad way!

Scrap it mate, or part it out

New engine will be the thick end of 10k fitted, sadly you now the answer.
Finding someone legit to rebuild it who will not just run off with your money will be a real challenge.

Someone's gonna ask, any transferable warranty from engine rebuild? But there aint is there

Boringannoying questions.
Private sale or through a garage?
Anything in writing about the rebuilt engine i.e. to justify that you bought it on the understanding that it had been done?
Any paperwork to do with the rebuild when you got the car?

rebuild kits are available, should you want to try and do it yourself.

Could the OP not drop a jag engine in?

Not much out there r.e jag 3.0 into a D4. Can be done apparently.

Its not just dropping it in tho is it dude, hes still gotta find a good mechanic who's willing to put his name to it, plus assorted extras you'd do while you're in there. The cars done 2 engines, maybe block was goosed from original failure but who knows, could be an underlying issue somewhere exacerbating the engines natural....foibles

Sell it spares repairs and be rid of it

We have no idea if the OP has any mechanical skills.
I am particularly interested in this as a neighbour of mine has just taken on his son's vehicle in the same circs. I think he is planning to rebuild the engine. Last I heard anyway.
He is French and doesn't speak English otherwise I'd try to persuade him to come on here and put a thread up about it as I am sure it would be of lots of interest!

So the guy I bought from is stripping it back and found a bearing having spun and chewed crankshaft. Drakes engineering who supplied & re ground the crankshaft think it is caused by a bent conrod….. waiting to hear more.

If he needs anything he asks me. I get it for him if I can and it's cheaper. He is quite "big" on at least one Frog LR forum.
I meant that what he does and finds out might be quite instructional for others on here.
He isn't thick, he knows how to use a translator and also their limitations!

I did read a few years ago, that when the 2.7 or the 3.0 has crank issues then the block is scrap, as it will never be truly true afterwards.
So be wary anyone who says they can rebuild after crank failure.

It would be interesting to see how many that have been repaired fail again, the other thing is if they fail again was it down to the block or something that had been damaged the first time and not picked up on, I find it hard to believe if the new crank goes in and all turns as it should and all clocks up as it should that the block would cause a problem, but who really knows, could the block be near the limit of spec when new and that plays a part in the problems in the first place

I remember the German fella measuring the block of that 3.0 sdv6 they did to check for true
