Hi
So the saga of the Disco goes on. Ive rebuilt the engine TD5
new rings
big end
honed the bores
new recon head

But now its all back together have a strange thing happened. I filled the engine with 7.2 ltrs of oil and NOTHING is showing on the dipstick. NOTHING

Any ideas why this would be. The engine won't start even though its almost there but LOTS of white smoke coming out the back. Slightly concerned.

Also on the fuel pressure reg EC2 type with 2 holes which is the fuel in top or bottom.

Any help of ideas great before I start taking everything to pieces for the 3rd time

Thanks in advance

Should be 8.2 litres dry fill and don't forget, some goes into the filter.
But it is surprising you can't see anything.
Mind you clean oil can be surprisingly hard to see.
ALSO it takes an AGE for oil to drain down into the sump. I've overfilled a couple of times through impatience, mine once, my mate's once!

Hi, The handbook does say 7.2 litres with a filter change. I assume you'd see the oil on the floor if you've forgotten to put the sump plug in :) It's only about a litre between the marks on the dip stick, which I assume is the correct one and you are pushing fully home.

I did say 8.2 litres on a DRY fill. I am assuming that when he did all this work on the engine he took the sump off and cleaned all the oil out of all the oil galleries, filter bits and bobs including centrifugal filter.
The extra litre or so needed is quite typical, have a look at this which gives several different examples but all with roughly the same amount.
