Hey all, I have been looking for a Rangey in Jersey pref DSE or DHSE as petrol isn't cheap and found one and went with a mate who knows about them today,
I was a bit suspicious as was my buddy as guy said to ring him first so he could get it started beforehand !!

But we didn't and his mrs came out and caught us checking it out already !
anyways she was also eastern european and didn't understand anything really and surprisingly it started very well from cold, interior was good but a darker brown we had not seen before and had a sunroof ? in a DSE ?
130,000 miles most electricals worked and small rocker oil leakage.

upon driving however the box was smooth and engine smoother but really slow even when sport engaged ! no difference in pick up ?????
:scratching_chin:

My mate jumped in and tried kick down hard etc as automatic but it kicked down gears fine but no pull away, he looked at air box and said all good and filter clean ! but about a third of pick up of his model of same especially in sport mode with kick down...

he mentioned his getting up to about 60 mph and this one at same amount of seconds in sport and in normal Drive got to about 30 mph ! as I say sport changed nothing acceleration wise.

The guy wanted £2,550 and also heated seats don't work broken bumper to front many little dents and scratches and air con / fan motors didn't cool or blow right from many of vents inside ?? oh and 2.5 inch crack in windscreen too and pillars A and B seemed to show had been dampness at some point so it's a shame and would really like one but am I best going to U.K. and finding one or could this be something not expensive to fix ??

Any help would be very much appreciated, Thanks, Matt.

Assuming diesels box works the same as my 4.6, sport mode does not give more power, it just holds the lower gear longer before it shifts up. No heater air may be duff blend motors. Best to take your time and look at a few if possible.

Thanks Stufer, my mate did say there were about 5 fan motors and would be expensive as need all dash out plus the power issue as got to 30 mph in about 30 seconds foot to the floor !!

The sluggishness should be an easy fix. 3mm vacuum Pipe from under the intake manifold, hand under near the front and goes to the top of the fuel filter, (assuming it has one! and it should!), becomes blocked with oil crud and mating insects. Replace it with a good pipe or clean it out. Failing that Check the fuel filter to and see if you can hear the turbo spool up on start under load - gently though. Allow oil to circulate first.

Blend motors require a lot of work to change but whichever P38 you pick it will either be 1 of them or all of them so expect to do that job at some point.

Seat don't worry too much about....you live in Jersey. Broken elements in the seat continually break...mods available though online if you really want to do them

Right guys thanks for that, so if he dropped the money low enough than a windscreen and that vac pipe could cure it and get things moving along, heated seats not wanted anyway and I was looking on ebay as there are loads of them and it's either that or a vw transporter diesel but the score is finding a decent Range Rover then customs want £500 taxes on coming off ferry and registration want lots of cash too.

worst bit is if there is a small oil leak they could fail it from allowing onto road although there is nothing like MOT, to pass here so locally lots of junk around !

So is the A/C / fans motors in dash a nightmare money pit to repair ??

Not sure about blend motors, not had to do them yet, have made enquiries with my insurance company about changing damaged windscreen, they will only cough up a portion of the replacement cost, leaving me nearly 700 to pay  haha stuff that, I'm waiting to change insurance company to one that will hopefully cover most of it. Worth bearing in mind if it's cracked.

Remember the list of things to fix will grow as soon as you purchase one. Good luck!!

It's a pressure pipe not a vacuum pipe. It feeds the MAP sensor to adjust fuelling on boost. If it's blocked or split and losing pressure that could be the reason for lack of power.

Thanks Wammers, would be charged emissions tax and get @ 5 % of vehicle value plus inspection, registration, and shipping costs so sounds bad but actually only a max of £500 really.

Heated front screen for a P38 is less than £450.00 to buy and takes half an hour to fit, where do they get £700.00 plus from.

The guy is in Jersey, everything is more expensive over there...

he's best get it done before he ships it home...:D

Good question, they (insurance company) actually said it was over a grand, leaving me nearly 700 to pay  jokers. Where would you advise to go to get one at 450? I could give the insurance company a written quote to point out they are a rip off.

Dippypud, not me on Jersey mate, that was the original poster ;)

Just posted the below on a previous post....

When I was searching for mine I looked at reports on here, and one always sticks in my head:

Post 1: Is the Diesel P38 really as slow as I have heard they are?
Post 2: No, they're slower....

They are plenty good enough for what it is designed to do, but I have to say coming from V8 Rangies in the past, the sluggishness did surprise me - but give it a poke on the load pedal and she will leap up and take off....

I had a crack in mine last year. My lad knows a windscreen fitter who quoted £350.00 fitted for none heated and £450.00 fitted for heated. I got it done on insurance for £70.00 excess in the end. Somebody is pulling somebodys leg.
