engine over feving and clocks on 0

hi just bought a rangerover 2.5 manual started it up today and the engine started racing but the rev counter was on 0 does any one now what this could be

Its happened to my freelander and my dads mitzy Pajero,turned out on both veckles to be the crank position sensor.

thanks for the reply dont think its a sticky throttle when you try and drive off its like a kanngaro switch off and re start and it fine

So it only races when you first start it, and upon restarting it, drives normally?

its only happend twice soon as i turn engine off and restart it fine ...
