Can one lift a V8 complete with both boxes and the exhaust manifolds still attached out from a 110 please.
I will be taking the rad out and the crossmember under the gearbox and the bonnet off so should come out with the aid of a forklift truck I'm hoping.
Anyone done this please.

.

it would be a pain the but.

why do you want to take it out as a one piece?

Because I helped my mate take the 19J engine out of his 90 with gearboxes attatched and it came out a treat, just the gearlevers caught a bit on the way out. We took it out with a forklift truck and it lifted out almost vertical.

then i imagine you have answered your own question, the difference will be width of the engine, if you disconnect the gear levers first, they can not get stuck, but this is all stating the obvious. with enough time, patience and forethought anything is possible.

Will the exhausts (presume manifolds and down pipes) catch on anything like chassis engine mounts or steering box? If not then go for it;)

I seem to recall that there's a chassis crossmember in the way on a 110? Could be mistaken though??????

Gonna remove the crossmember so the back end of the gearbox can drop down to the floor then hoik it all up in the air. ...that's the plan anyway.

It's got them four branch pipes on each side that go back to a collector, it's all above the engine mounts so looks like it'll come out but was wonderin if anyone had done it.:)

Piccies an a write up please- be the first to do it on here.

I'll do that and get some pics of the 300tdi goin back in with the boxes still bolted up.

And a picture of the gearlever being in a good position even though it's all out of a disco:cool:

i've just transplanted a rrc 3.5efi and zf box into my hybrid using this method. We used an engine lift to get the engine and box out of the rrc and found we had to remove downpipes because they caught on engine mounts on chassis.Using a forklift to remove the engine and box(v8/4sp) from the hybrid,we had no probs as you get a lot more height. We used a rolling board/trolley under the handbrake to allow it roll forward as we lifted. It's a doddle to do with a forklift.

Had to take the gearbox mounts off the chassis but it came out eventually.

didn't bother taking the front panel out when we did ours, just the rad in case it got damaged.Had already lowered the gearbox on a jack after removing chassis bolts.

Took mine out because the Disco rad and intercooler are going in, also it's easier to reach the other bits.
I've left the power steering intact by removing the pump from the engine, I was wondering if the V8 pump will fit the 300tdi....or would that be asking a little tooooo much:D

as long as you've got the bracket for the 300,shouldn't be a problem. Not sure about the rad fitting though.

i just took my 200tdi auto out of my 110 in1 piece (engine and boxs)
and took my 3.9 v8 and auto box with t box all in 1 piece out of disco using my forklift , this is how i always do it. always will while i can, easiest way, but i put small trolley under handbrake drum to help it slide ,always remove gearbox mounts cos they a pain if get caught on front axle/anti-roll bar.
said 200 and auto box complete forsale with exhaust , rad, fuel filter, props for 110 with salisbury axle
would be very good and powerfull for a90 but would need new rear prop if interested pm me
