Hi everyone, I've got a RRC with a 200tdi fitted. The turbo absolutely s**t itself the other day whist driving, so I pulled over an took the hose off the turbo to inspect the damage and oil started pouring from the turbo. Turbo completely knackered! I limped the car home and had look in daylight and the oil had gone really thick and tar like. Anybody got any ideas what has happened to my oil?. I dnt know if the turbo caused the oil to become thick or if the oil caused the turbo to give up. Got a replacement turbo to fit but the engine is now full of this thick oil that wont come out. Any ideas how to flush it? Thanks in advance guys.

about 8 years ago by the sounds of it :D oil in diesels gets thicker as it gets older due to sooty black carbon deposits contaminating the oil, I await the my engine is knackered thread to appear next.

try getting some heat in the sump using a blow torch hoping it will warm the oil enough to get it to drain out, then I would fill with some cheap engine oil with half a litre of diesel mixed with it, run the engine till the oil is hot and drain it again, then fill with quality engine oil and replace the filter,
being me I would change it again a month later

Thanks for the reply guys. The oil was changed just over 6 months ago. But I have been running the car on veg through the summer so would that kill the oil off quicker than usual? I thought about flushing it with fresh oil and maybe diesel, think I'm gona take the sump off an try to remove as much as I can that way first.

I would hazard a guess and say the piston rings are ####ed and some veg has vorced its way into the crankcase.

Sorted the oil issue an new turbo but after having it running a couple of times it wont fire up. Is there any thing that I could of done whist fitting the turbo? The starter is working but seems to me that its not fuelling properly.

What was wrong with the oil issue in the end? Does it have good pressure now?

As for it not running , you haven't knocked the stop solenoid wiring ?

I think a combination of lack of oil change and running on SVO through the summer killed the oil off. As for it not starting I had a look at the stop solenoid, even tried the trick of taking the plunger out of the solenoid but it still wouldn't fire. Its getting fuel to the lift pump and to the injector pump.
