When I did my oil/filter change last night I started the engine up to let the oil warm up. When I took the filler cap off (just after starting) there seemed to be a little steam/smoke (grey?) emanating from the top. Is this normal? If I wanted to check it after its warmed up, is it safe to remove the filler cap? I didn’t want to do it last night incase I got burned by red hot molten oil! Muuuu hahahahaha! J

Anyway, the sump didn’t leak overnight. Will fire it up after work and take it for a drive. Cheers for your help.

most engines have a small amount of condensation when cooling down - so just after starting, this will evaporate off. There is no prob removing the filler cap when hot - except fur a small amount of spray/splashing that occurs, but i wouldnt advise putting ya hand over the hole. I wud advise wrapping an old rag around the filler tube to catch any spray - it saves wiping the rocker cover down afterwards.

cheers MHM... you are quick today. bored? i guess it prob was condensation. may have a peak in the top later on. cheers. ive been working my way around my 90 for the last 12 months and avoiding the engine as much as possible! i guess its time i gave in and tried to understand it!
