I am trying to find some info about my 2 1/4 petrol engine in my S111 1972. The engine has been changed at some point. Engine no 36129822B, I understand that it is a 5 main bearing 8:1 ratio but have been told that the block is a Diesel(no tapping for cold start thermistor). also all the info i can find shows an A at the end. So is it a Diesel block? What is dose the B at the end relate to?

Thanks for help.

dont quote me on this, A or B im almost sure relates to the family of engines, the 3 or 5 bearing crank but not always were identified by the colour the 5 bearing was a terracota red, thou its poss im wrong ive never come across a petrol head being fitted to a diesel engine as for the cold start that would be tapped into the inlet manifold these i think were used on very early models have you got the vin no/ as i have a book which tells you all about the vehicle, ie where it was made, the type of body, engine type, hope this helps you, regards js

Thanks JS

The block is red, did the later engines not have the tapping for the "cold start" light sensor? How old is this engine?
