Morning all.Yesterday on driving from N Devon to Essex I had been cruising up the motorway at 80 I had done over 250 miles when the engine management light came on:(. I moved over to the inside lane and dropped below 70 and the light went out. There did not appear any noticeable difference in engine performance.Took her back up to 80 and eventually the light came back on but no drop in performance. When I bought the vehicle I blanked off the EGR changed the crankcase breather for the uprated one and changed to silicone hoses.
Any advice would be appreciated as I have to travel back to Devon tomorrow.

Thanks Keith

I would say that your low pressure fuel pump is starting to fail.

What year is your car?

Try cruising at 60mph. Your fuel economy will improve dramatically. I managed to get 42mpg out of my modified auto on a 600 mile journey recently. Foot to floor, and it gives me about 30mpg.

Mine has done the very same since I've ditched the egr!!
Not caused me any grief thou (touch wood)
Interesting theory ref the low pressure fuel pump! Have to have alook at that

For those who mention driving at the legal limit I hope you are not depending on your speedo's for that as they are not accurate. When I said I was cruising at 80 thats by the speedo which actually equates to 73 mph :). Any way back to the problem only happened twice on the way back down and that was when I deliberately gunned it up hill, put my Elmscan on it when i got home and no codes showing so off to the garage tomorrow to see if they can find anything. Thanks epicuser for a sensible reply I will have a look at it.

defo could be the pump this happened to me some years ago , also I know my speedo in this and my old car were 4 miles an hour faster than I was actually doing .
