Engine Light then no response from throttle

Hi any help or advice would be greatful. I have a Freelander 2.0 Diesel L series on a W plate. Have had no engine issues until today. What happened was engine died and went into Safe mode, 10 mph all the way home. When I tried to start again it wont have it. engine is turning over but not firing up. The warning light in the shape of an engine is on. There is quite a loud ticking whirring noise coming from the fuel pump. Is my engine dead or could it be something daft? Thanks in advance.

could be you fuel pump and as not much fuel is getting through hense engin light, and this cutts down and will not let you try to over throtel, until problem is fixed as soon as it is light should go of and back to normal hope this helps.

well quick update. Car is now sorted. Wiring to pump had burnt out had that and the exhaust and brakes sorted all for just £215. that is a very good price for the work under taken. I'm once again a happy little Freelander owner.
