Hi all, got an issue with our 2014 Defender 90 I hope you can help with.
When we switch off the ignition the engine keeps running.
All the dasboard lights stay on and when you take your foot off the brake, the engine stops and the dash lights go out.
If it was a sticking ignition switch the dash lights would stay on, it's weired that by releasing the brake pedal it shuts down.
Happens 2-3 times a week.
Any help would be appreciated.... Cheers John

Sounds like a short circuit between the brake light wiring and the wires involving running the engine.. I haven't got my wiring diagrams here, but the obvious place to look is in the bird's nest in the instrument pod, but it could also be in the vicinity of the switch on the master cylinder on the front side of the bulkhead.

ETA. You're looking for two wires melted together, probably where they run round a tight ben or bunched in a hole.

There are a pair of switches on the brake pedal which link into the ECU - see attached info - I suspect the fault lies there or within the wiring. Its far too complex for me to understand, but the attachments should give a snapshot view of what might be the area to be looking into.

Thankyou all for the info so far, going to be one of those tricky ones, if the fault was there all this time it would be easier to track down ☹️
Hasn't happened for a couple of weeks now.

Looking at the diagram supplied by @Wimblowdriver (I'll get mine out this afternoon to get more diags) you could start by looking at the brake light switch. The diag shows that there's a green wire going to it, hopefully the wire leaving is not green because that's the one you want to follow looking for melt/burn marks. If they're both green then disconnect one and see if there's 12V on it with the ignition on. If there is then you want the other one with 0V.
