Whilst I have had the large plastic cover off the engine and sitting on the garage floor it has deposited a fair amount of oil.
The sponge was quite soaked, which is where it must be coming from.
Pulled the sponge off the cover and tried to clean it but given up and binned it now.
To be fair the engine noise is no greater with or without the cover on but the engine bay looks better with it on minus the sponge.
I suppose its all the oil spills over the years by those who don't own a funnel.
