Hello all

I have have the following:

A 1984 lightweight with a 2.25 petrol leaf spring etc. All standard Lightweight stuff. The Suspension is all dead, the engine doesn't start and the chassis needs work.

1992 Disco 200tdi rolling chassis. Engine, gearbox, transfer box and axles.

My question is has anyone combined the 2 together. I can find coil sprung lightweights but no info on how the conversion was carried out. I can find alot of info on doing the engine swap on s2/3.

I was thinking the best option would be to cut the disco chassis down to 88 and fit the lightweight body on to the modded chassis. I think i would have to mod the body mounts to:confused:

Am i heading on the right lines??

Final product would be for daily use plus rtv's and playdays. Not so much laning as the disco takes care of this.

Watch that "A4x4 is Born" series Mark Evans does essentially the same thing except it's not a lightweight but the principle's the same. He does get a bit carried away with the offroad goodies mind.

If I was doing a coil conversion I would start by stripping the body off the Disco, remove the rear propshaft then cut and shut the chassis to give a shorter wheelbase. Next I'd remove the body from the lightweight and make a jig out of box section steel to fit all the body attachment points on the lightweight chassis, then put the jig onto the Disco chassis so you know exactly where to position all the outriggers, rear cross member and other brackets and mounting holes. I'd get the rear prop professionaly shortened. I think there might be some problems with the gear levers being in the wrong place if using the Disco gearbox.
