Sudden catastrophic loss of power and clouds of dirty white smoke out of the back. 200 Tdi fitted in a Series III. I'm guessing head gasket?

Will be unusual as they normally blow first at the back of the head from no4 cylinder, but just blow cylinder pressure no water or oil.
Only real way to tell is to pull the head for a look see.

It was nothing to do with the engine, as it happened, it was a turbo hose. The hose (I guess air intake into the turbo) must have been weakened and collapsed when you applied the throttle, squeezing shut, therefore denying the turbo any air. As a result it dumped fuel into the engine, unable to be burned hence clouds of white smoke and no go.
