Ocassionally you hear a clatter and a thud, and find that the vehicle has engaged 4WD by itself. Theres also a small squeal coming from the axle area. Any ideas guys?

Or has the special yellow knob spring retainer in the transmission tunnel pushed its way through the floor?

Does it pop out of 4 wheel drive when you select low range?

It used to pop out of 4WD when it was put into Low. It now has a slight jingley sound at low speed before going clunk into 4wd

Everythign went downhill, and now I need a new gearbox, transfer box, prop shaft, front axle and he said he may aswell do the clutch because of the amount of stripping involved. Minimum £900

Most gearboxs are now rebuilt to suffix D spec. Nothing special in itself really. Just the latest spec.

Ref an earlier post you made.

How else would you disingage 4wd?

Might I suggest, and I mean this without prejudice or malice, please read the vehicle operations manual before using your new gearbox. Some comments you have made just dont seem to fit properly.

Especially look at 4wd operation and how to engage and disengage. And also look at the vehicle suppliment regarding free wheeling front hubs etc.

Good luck.

Well i used to put it into low while stationary then back into high, but I had to manually pull it out of 4wd upward while pulling into low with the other hand
