Cable snapped on my drivers side electric window, it is a 5 door 2000 plate freelander, before i start stripping it down, will a 3 door freelander mechanism fit??
thanks

Try a search first as some people have successfully repaired theirs using bicycle parts or repair kits.

Hmmmmm that's one that hasn't been asked before.
The regulator will be identical, as for cable lengths???
longer door in the 3dr, so longer glass as well.
Not sure if the distance between the glass clamps are different in 3dr/5dr.

Let us all know

Same problem i think, motor seems fine but window does not move, just a grating noise, let us know how you get on please.

Hello folks, what a coincidence.........lol well my freelander deicided to get a tantrum in the very frosty morning yesterday and get drivers front window stuck half way down which was the worst time ever to happen... Its a 5 door . When I bought it back in September it already had a rear passenger window that was faulty, I had previously stripped the panel which should the wire around the reel had frayed causing the fault and the break in the wire under stress, I bought the ebay wire repair kit and instructions.. but decided to leave it for another day... Yesterday became that day....! Well I stripped the front window panel to reveal that the wire has slipped from the plastic real jamming it between the real and the metal door panel thus not allowing any movement .. the mechanism was removed so as to layout on the floor ..assessed the working parts. replaced the wire around the plastic real . connected the switch to the working parts but had to hold and support one section whilst pressing the up/down button and pulling on the wire so as to release some wire out of the real in the motor, this worked .. As to the rear window ebay kit . I decided to attempt this.. my advice is pay very close attention to the instructions and do not cut anything untill yr dead sure. I made the mistake .. but l worked it out in a round about way and had to modify and repair the wire i had left over and use two part resin which has worked... both windows working fine,,. definatel not a 5 minute job. rather confusing really

I used Roy Mackays repair kit from eBay, and although sceptical about glueing the ends on it has worked a treat. My OSF window stuck half way up ( it had been grating and was aware of the reg issue) so i purchased his kit.
After reading the very comprehensive instructions i removed my reg to find a horrible birdsnest of wire!! I only replaced the one wire so the whole job took about an hour to finish, but now the window is smooth as silk.

The best bit is i have enough wire and ends left to do the passenger window WHEN it goes!! So i have technically saved myself £180 already.......

Hey does anyone have any solutions to this problem, ihave a 2004 5 window the rear window goes all the way up but then comes about 6'' down after hearing a beep from somewhere in the dashboard

Hi there , Just in case anybody's interested , I bought the wire out of B&Q its about 85p for a metre, just make sure you get the right guage . But it did the job perfect.

Sorry for the delay had to do some work.
I ended up drilling a round dome head nickel bolt for one side and cut about 7-8mm off a 4" nail and drilled that also, then used silver solder to braze the ends . worked perfect .
