hi all i have a 98 range rover 4.6 v8 petrol with an odd problem the rear passenger window (electric) wont wind down at all and it comes up on the dash lh rear window not set i no to set it u have to move its down then up but it dues not move at all i thought it was the motor and gears that had broke so i replaced them but still have the same problem i have gone all over the door with a volt meter to try and find a broken cable but no luck all the wires seem fine if anyone have had this problem or knows what it could be please let me no as its driving me mad

I have a problem like this and it's the rubber seal on the door becoming rigid over time. My front passenger door, below halfway gets stuck and unsets.

To set push button and have someone pull the window up to top hold for 5 seconds, then push down then hold for 5 seconds. A decent lubricating spray will help too

hi m8 thanks for the reply but the motor dues not move at all even if its not bolted in to the mechanism if its just connected by the cable it still dues not move at all

The assembly contains a feedback unit. The BeCM counts the number of pulses from full up to full down. That way it knows where the window is and when to shut off the power when the window is fully open or closed. 3 of the wires are for this with a fourth one being the earth. There's only two for the motor itself - Grey & Grey/Orange. The voltage to these two is just reversed to give both directions.

If you have replaced the motor, it could be the switch in the central consol that is the issue, you would need to look at the wiring diagram for the switch pack to see which wires to short circuit to move the window - if it is the switch a replacement swich pack from a breakers should be easy to find.

thanks for all the replys if the switch in the central consol was at falut would that stop the swich on the door from opening it also ?

Doh - sorry didn't read that it was the rear window - no both switches would send a message to the BECM to operate the motor - it is a shame you do not have a Faultmate so that you could test the operation from the BECM....

what is a Faultmate ?? and where can i get one ?? is there anywhere that you no of where i could send the becm to get checked over cos i think its that that is playing up atm

The Faultmate is a superb diagnostic piece of kit available from Black Box Solutions. Expensive though but necessary to access the BeCM.
There are a couple of people on here you could send your BeCM to for testing and repair - one is Irish Rover and the other is Rick The Pick. You're better sending them a PM (private mail).
