Hi there,

Seeing as im having a good couple of days of getting my Disco sorted out and back to its best i want to get the electric seats working.

Its a 1996 discovery 2.5 tdi auto. Electric front seats but NOT heated.

The front passenger doesnt work at all. The front driver seat works in every direction other than sliding 'backwards'. Swapped the switch over from the passenger and it goes back fine so its just the switch there.

Whilst swapping over the switch i found the problem on the passenger side. All of the 6 colour coded wires that go into the plug for the base of the seat have been removed. Can anyone help me with which go where?? There are 2 thicker and 4 thinner wires that slot into the plug. The plug has numbers 1-6 on the front 'plug in' face.

The colours are: White/blue (thick wire). Black/purple (thick wire). White/black. White/pink. White/green. White/grey

Thanks in advance for any help

Regards

Jez

Download a free copy of RAVE 3, the LR workshop manual for Disco I.

It has all the wiring diags included.

I think you can still download from the Green Oval site. Do a Google search for it.

The Haynes Manual for Discovery 1s (3016) does not give the wiring outline for the electric seats, so forget that one! I am still looking for one myself. The main problem anyone will have is that the wires from the motors are yellow and green, but from the socket under the seat the colours change to enter the harness. However, the sockets are different, red or blue depending upon side, so you also must ensure that the right wires go to the right switch. You must have the fuse, relay and seat ECU, although it should be called a MCU, it governs the motors on the seats (2 on each seat, not a single reversible motor like VW Group or BMW would use), not an engine! If you have the earlier manual seat bases you can easily fabricate seat adaptors but for safety sake remove the seat safety belt mount and use those on the manual system's console. The RAVE site that I found does give the Discovery's general data but has no wiring diagram in its freely downloadable manual, if anyone knows a site I can go to to get this tiny scrap of the overall wiring system I would be most grateful; I find it easier to get tuning data on a DeHavilland Gipsy engine than this more recent stuff (mind you, I do have books on the Aero Engines of that era, so just go to my bookcases); as it is not my vehicle and my chum is not paying like Cresus, the idea of sitting in the cold and working it all out from first principles does not appeal to my mind, but may have to be done! After a week of removing rust and filler, and replacing the crud with metal one does wonder why simpler data is just not a simple click away, like an e-mail to me would get various data; is it because too many who do have data want to get rich off it and not just share for free like I do?
