Think this lad is having himself on. OBD2 will do engine on a petrol to some extent. But will do NOTHING at all on a diesel. No P38a diesel is OBD2 compliant in any way.

You are clearly not listening. The diesel P38 IS NOT OBDII compliant. You have bought something for your car than is as useful as a pair of tits on a Mars bar.

Says what it reads here although not sure what it means. Engine might be petrol, might be diesel. AC presumably HEVAC? AT? Automatic transmission?

All OBDII readers will do P38 petrol engine to some degree. But they WILL NOT do the P38 diesel. It is a total waste of money. Wish people would start bloody listening.

But the professional stuff does other types. That BMW M51 engine was widespread. Looks like the professional Maxisys kit SHOULD do non-ODB engines. Mind you, it costs thousands.

Sorry but if you want to do all the systems on a P38 you have to get dedicated diag such as Nanocom. Even the very expensive professional garage diag will not do it and will have seriously limited usability. Even on vehicles that legally have to be OBDII compliant (Petrols from 2001, Diesels from 2004) there will still be systems that need dedicated factory diag. As said earlier apart from some petrol engine diag functions relating to emissions no P38 was ever fully OBDII compliant. No P38 diesel ever was.

He's right, this system is rather limited but will give some info but not as much as a dedicated system like the nano'.
If your keeping the bus, get the nano'.

My maxisys MS906 was purchased for my garage as my old maxidas ran out of license. Then I managed to buy a P38 and start getting some issues. I did not purchase the maxisys for the P38. That would have been a nanocom but I can't justify one just for my own motor. I don't have Range rovers clambering to get work done at my unit.

Understood, I have the mx808 to help keep up with modern laptops on wheels! It captures some live data on my bus but that's it. I too would like the nano' but as long as kids eat sleep and demand lifts everywhere, it'll have to wait for now
