I'm Samo and I just got a landy! (Actually I collect it this Saturday, do I still count as an owner?)

I grew up on Landies, did my first trial as a fetus in 1981. Dad worked for LR all his civilian life in the Manchester area. But he died in 2002 and I lost my way for a good few years and lost touch with Land rovers. Now I live in Cornwall and last night I put a deposit down for my first ever Landy at the age of 36. A 1981 SIII SWB. I'm hoping to get re connected with the LR world, maybe track down some of dads old mates and treasure and maintain my rolling project. (if anyone knew Roger Hopwood in the Stockport area, used to trial with Lancs and Cheshire club please give me a shout Id love to hear from you) I look forward to meeting some new members of the LR owner community (cant wait for that first wave while driving my own Landy, I've waited a long time for it.)

Below is a pic of the new pride and joy that I snapped while talking to the sellers last night.

Hey,

Only the two from the advert I replied to selling her. I’ll upload them below. Seems super well looked after, couple of repairs to chassis and it’s had the footwells done but it’s been re built over the past 15 years by a local place down here and for the money I had it was a real bargain I think. Can’t wait to pick her up Saturday and get out for a spin round the coast down here.

She looks to be in good nick! Its good that the chassis okay is okay, I’ll be making a point of scrubbing down and repainting mine this summer. It’s fine but why not.

No free wheeling hubs I see, though not really a massive drawback as they can be a pain.

Really good looking landy though. Good purchase! Do you mind I ask what you put up for it?

You can always ask

If I say more than 4K less than 5k that should cover it and I feel like it’s a bargain at that.

I know I’m in for more as it goes on. She needs new door tops and I’d like some taller tyres to complement her overdrive.

Never been a fan of fwh’s, unless you use them all the time they seem to be a bit problematic. Depends how much I drive her (it’s very much a weekend toy as I’ve got a 65mile commute)

I do intend to keep on top of chassis painting myself, specially in Cornwall the coastal air and all, same for you on Hayling I imagine.

Welcome. Nice to see an S3, a late model too and original looking. Would look great on 750/16 tyres. Enjoy pootering along the Cornish lanes- you'll be able to see over the hedgerows.

Thanks John,

Yea some bigger tyres are one of the first things I want to do. Not to big tho. Wanna keep her classic and original looking.
