I done my egr valve upgrade today.:)..
Simple job taking 30mins to complete, took some pics whilst doing it to let anyone thinking of doing it also whats involved..

First the new egr valve before starting..

This really is quite easy, The only thing i found a bit awkward was getting my hands underneath the egr to keep the bolts from falling into the underbody tray whilst using the rachet to slacken/tighten them..
 
Hi all,
By shear coincidence I also replaced my EGR By PassKit today and also found it easy, although I dropped a jubilee clip in the under tray but a magnet on a rod got it out.
I had previously cleaned the original EGR of a lot of crud and got a bit of it out from the manifold.
This time when replacing the original EGR, off came the manifold and I used a couple of bottles of engine degreaser to loosen the crud then in with a power wash wand, finally blowing out with compressed air (although where I live, things dry in record times due to temps in excess of 35 degrees!)
No pictures I'm afraid due to getting oily crud everywhere and not wanting to mess up my phone.
First impressions reveal better acceleration but there again, I was never really disappointed before.
Tomorrow an HIDS4U H4/6K lighting kit fit:)
 
Changed mine a few months ago, £30 off ebay but did not include new seal or bolts (original ones were OK) new bypass also included blanking stub for vacuum pipe. Make sure you wear protective gloves as the carbon takes some shifting.
 
ferryjambo, I can't see the vacuum pipe (arrival of vacuum at the valve) anymore on the picture showing the installed egr bypass. I hope you did block it off before you stached it away underneath some place ??

hi,
yep this egr didnt have the small nipple on the body to attach the vacuum hose too, so i just used a self tapper to block it off with & folded it safely out the way ...;)

small world.. :)
due to time constraints i left the manifold for later, i plan to get a cheap plastic basin then i'll soak it in petrol to loosen off the crud then prob make something up like an oversize pipe cleaner or an army pull through for cleaning gun barrels etc to clean it with..

did you find getting the manifold bolts out a problem ??.. when i took the egr off inside the manifold was covered in black sludge tbh, so i'll be doing this job asap methinks..;)

The manifold comes off easily, the bolts at top (which retain in the manifold) are 10mm and nuts at bottom (left hand side one is a bolt) are 11mm. You have to remove the manifold sensor plug (small wire clip retains) to lift the manifold clear. Once off you can remove the manifold sensor (10mm bolt) to reveal another, albeit small, hole to blow through!
When cleaning be very careful as the carbon sludge, as said in previous post, is a nightmare to remove from anything especially the kitchen floor as went for more water (to drink)!!!

Good to know about the bolts.. I was thinking of fuel or mr. Muscle etc as a cleaner for it?. Yep the sludge from the old egr valve was a pain to get off my hands at first but I tried White spirit & it fell off easily..

I'll clean it next week when I've more time, & I'll post up the pics too..

I don't think my manifold will be a pretty picture inside judging by the crap I could scoop out with my finger alone. 120.000 miles of built up crud to clean off it, oh the joy.. Ha ha..

sorry to ask but noticed that you have a different engine cover than mine, never seen one before and was wondering if your freelander is a TD4 please,

have put a picture of the top of my engine and didnt know if that cover goes over the top of what ive got on my engine or its a different design

yes my freelander is a 2001 td4 as you can see it covers the whole engine unlike yours..
 
I have the later type cover as well on my 2003 TD4 but does anyone know what that little tab with a thread fitting on the front middle is for?
