EGR Removal

I want to remove my EGR and have seen blanking kits available for around £10, however someone told me I would get better performance by removing the old large pipe that the egr is tee'd off and replacing it with new, however a blanking kit with new pipe is nearer £40.

Question is, would replacing the pipe make enough of a difference to justify £30 or should I just blank off the existing pipe and be done with it ?

Hi, I did mine a few weeks ago and a blanking plate and new hose cost £17.99 of fleabay. Taking off the old hose and replacing it tidies the engine bay up. You can then leave the old one lying around on the drive making your missus really happy and glad that her lovely house looks like a scrap yard. In all seriousness though taking the old one of with get rid of all of the old oil that is in it. It also stops Mr nosey MOT man (not that it should fail over it). Its worth cleaning out the intercooler also. I did mine and she runs like a dream and pulls like a train.

Had a look on ebay after posting and relised I could get plate and pipe for the price you said, about half of what it would cost me from my local landrover shop.

How does one go about cleaning the intercooler? Is it a big job?

Nah, Take it out (see Haynes manual or previous threads on here) then using petrol pour some in one end. You can block up both ends and shake it to help clean the crap out. Do this a couple of times till the petrol runs clear then dry it out thoroughly. Easy peasey. Takes an hour or two
