egr confusion

hi any sort me out with this mess brakes bit spongey after egr blank,i followed instructions to t....but have seen other diagrams suggestin removing electrical connector?? i blanked the manifold plate and gasket.....removed valve connected top hose,and removed blue vac pipe and blanked.....ive no heat exchanger,so early model 1999 xs...feels smoother to drive thats it but brakes are poor,checked pads allgood,discs ok...thought air so im goin to renew all fluid 1st easy cheap option 1st lol...:confused:
 
hi thnks for reply,i blanked it off where the blue vac pipe goes from the egr valve on soleinoid...ive also unplugged it am i suppose to dissconect the lot from the t piece that runs from servo???? my kit is this eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace


You shouldn't disconnect the solenoid-if you mean the electrical plug?

Blank off the vacuum pipes at the egr end, with the plugs supplied.
 
On another note.. I Blanked me egr and!! WTF is all the fuss about? There is absolutely Zero difference :confused:


All I can think is that there's a lot of wishful thinking going on with 300tdi owners.. :rolleyes:

The solenoid is electrically controlled and operates several systems and has implications for the vacuum-assisted brake system.

You can block off the individual solenoid outlet that serves the EGR valve, but the electrical connector must remain.
 
ok,call me thick but how to wat end blocking it makes a diff? ive blocked it the blue pipe at the solenoid,what are the other pipes for exactly? and are you not to blank the t piece off main servo??? every one has diff ways,are they all the same?? some better some not? surely the t piece will work,ill try it and see,if i dont reply i failed and wownt have a disco anymore lol

As I tried to say before, the vacuum solenoid operates/is involved with a number of systems, one of which is the vacuum part of the braking system.

If the integrity of the vacuum is compromised then it can and by the sound of has, affected the braking system.

I don't understand why you don't just try as I suggested, and see if it has a positive effect on your brakes?
 
ill try it now thanks,there just seems so many diff ways to do it,whats the correct...im also not experiencing many changes




The important thing about the vacuum side of de-EGR'ing is that you maintain the vacuum, so whether you block off at one end of a single pipe or the other, doesn't matter; HOWEVER if you block of at the solenoid end make sure there is still a supply of vacuum on the left hand pipe of the T-piece.

The differences are not huge, but they are there. Most owners notice an increase in smoothness at tick-over and throughout the rev range; plus an improvement in torque at the lower end of the range manifesting in better long hill climbing and towing.

If yours has a cat'd exhaust downpipe, replacing with a straight version helps in terms of mpg and responsiveness. Then remap the ECU and you'll have a different car!
