EGR blanking and insurance

I have yet to ring my insurers and find out (once i get round to fitting them).

I've not told the insurance company not sure you need to as it does not improve performance and does not change the output of the engine.

If it doesnt improve performance why do people bother fitting them? almost any change from standard is classed as a modification.
