hi all i am new to this forum and i have a 1998 300tdi auto disco. i love it to bit and its perfect for everything and is a pleasure to drive. the problem is i keep finding that it wont start and the injection pump isnt sending diesel to the injectors. i have remove the stop solenoid but this make no difference but it turns off when ive remove the stop solenoid so whats stopping the deisel. when it wont start you here the pump then a click and that click is whats stopping it but what isnt. you don't here it when she starts. i cant figure out how the engine turns off without a stop solenoid plunger. can anyone tell me whats turning the engine off as this part is faulty and sometimes turns off occasionally so i can't start her. i want to override this part so that it starts every time. eventually it sorts itself out and runs fine for a few weeks then stops and take a few days to cure itself again. also i have no central locking key fob so i wondered if this may be doing something to it like an immobiliser. by the way the clicks that stop it starting occur before turning over but if i turn the key over straight away if fires but cant start as this piece what ever it is tells the engine to stop. any help will be appreciated.
regards Adam.

If it's a 1998 auto then it will probably have EDC which uses an electronic fuel pump rather than a mechanical one which is why the pump/engine stops when you turn off the ignition. A workshop manual should show you the EDC wiring diagram and perhaps any relays involved as the 'click' may be a faulty relay.
