Good Evening,
I have a 2008 Defender 90 owned and gently driven from new. A bit reluctant to start this morning at -3 Celsius. (Fair enough.) It took about 3 seconds compared with almost instantaneously at other times. As one would expect a quantity of blue smoke emitted for a couple of seconds and then normal tick-over. Two moderate journeys follow within the next hour with the engine up to temperature and it starts faultlessly. The vehicle is then left for three hours and again starts without any issues. However, the amber engine system warning light appears and stays on.
I am wondering if this is a transient reaction to the smokey start earlier. There are no noticeable engine performance issues and everything works perfectly.

My Question: Is it possible to easily reset the ECU to see if the light stays off subsequently? (If it doesn't then I'll visit the main dealers for a read out of the fault.)
Thanks for any suggestions or guidance.

gently driven from new.
That might be the cause of your problem. The DPF will not self regenerate with gentle use of the engine especially in cold weather. Give it a good run at 40-70mph for 20 minutes or more.

Edit - assuming it has a DPF fitted

Wimblower,
Thanks for the suggestion about the dpf. I'll see what transpires after a good run and blow through.
Many thanks
