I have exactly the same problem on my dads td4 had it to land rover garage to go on diagnostic computer which shows fault fuel lift pump ie one in tank this has been replaced and engine management light is still on and showing same fault they suggested a fault in the ecu
so for now i am leaving well alone as it is running spot on

Cheers

Well its a sad fact that if on the two pump models [td4] 2001- 2003 that if say rear pump go's weak then it can just get by with the other pump doing all the work [this will chuck up the mill light] and will need resetting once repaired. . . .the crunch is the other pump will/might become weak as this was overloaded. . . . can also give the same fault [mill light] so the one in the tank now will do all the work [understand the fault now] of course this can also work the other way around. . . . .the pump in the tank normally will go weak when the filter [strainer] into it gets clogged with ****e in the tank. . . . this ****e will end up in the fuel filter just before the other pump . . . . . .simple :) :) :)

thanks for your replies, sounds like logical reasons, luckily the motor is covered by a no quibble 3 month warranty dy the dealer i bought it from then will be covered by a warranty by "warranty direct", so maybe i will let the problem develop as they say and let those buggers stand the bill !

Hi Ming

Thanks for the reply but i have replaced both pumps and still the engine management light just comes back on after resetting i going to check wiring etc when i get a bit time

Thanks again

Gordon

Well I'm glad you guys are all sorted! Mine has the same fault; replaced fuel filters, pumps (X2 Now) common rail sensor.... and still that dam warning light comes on. The garage is now saying it might be the ECU. All this I can understand but does this not mean that diagnostic equipment might need a kick? Its costing me a fortune replacing things bit by bit. The garage has another td4 in monday so they are going to do a swop and see if it cures the problem, I will post the answer up as soon I can get a result, that way hopefully someone else won't have to fork out loads of money....

Cheers
