I have just bought a discovery td5 auto on a 51 plate

As far as I understand it there are a number of different options here but my local Landy garage expert guy has told me that there is a chip that can make it more economical.

I have read garages wanting to charge £500 to boost the power - to be fair I guess I don't need a chip to do that and to be frank I ain't lacking in power but if I can improve the mpg by 4-8 mpg that would be cool.

Can someone tell me what it does and how it works? I.m guessing some of it is making it change down sooner but I also read that that's bad as it will then struggle a little..... But maybe that's not what it does?

Advice would be appreciated.

An auto will benefit from a remap. The gearbox tends to hunt around looking for a suitable gear pre-map. Post map, you will find the extra torque stops this from happening.

Your 51 plate should be able to be mapped using flash download. In other words, a map can be put on to the vehicle just by connecting to the OBD2 diagnostic plug. This is nice because it is easy and fast to do, and is generally cheaper that having to hard-wire chips into the PCB of the engine ECU.

I'm slightly biased, but Alive Tuning have a dealer network who can do this for you. Alive Tuning - Dealer List
