Besides the Big Pit National Coal Museum, what else is there to do around the Ebbw Vale area?
What? It's a genuine question.
I need to get off my rock at some point this year, and I like South wales.
Edit: And I like oldy worldy mining stuff
I'll pass on that thanksPlenty of mountain biking to do...?
Cornwall / Devon is my next option

Not relaxing enough?
Cornwall has big Johns pit?
I could drive there from South Wales, so that's not a big deal, thanks.I can make many suggestions if you want to go to Cornwall. Try the Heartlands Centre in Camborne, and a visit to Geevor tin mine at Pendeen if you like mining stuff.

I've not booked an "holiday residence" yet, so basing myself in the Cornwall area is still an option. South wales seemed like an easy place to get to from the ferry, and is close enough to the many mining things down that way.
I made the mistake of going down that way on my motorbike a few years ago, but completely forgot about school holidays. Not such a huge issue on two wheels, but I would have been well annoyed if I'd been in my car.If you want to go to Cornwall, avoid the school holidays like the plague, unless you want to get ripped off blind for accommodation. And experience some very bad traffic.
Different kind of mining too. Cornwall is hard rock metal mines, or was. South Wales was all coal.

OK, so South Wales maybe isn't the best place for me to base myself then, looks like Devon / Cornwall could be in for another visit from Shimster
