can someone tell me if my 1984 LR90 should have 3 plugs on the swivel pin housings?

ive found the drain plug and the next one up i presume to be the level plug, but cant seem to find the filler plug as mentioned in the Gaynes manual  does the housing at this age have a duel filler/level plug? or should i have all 3?

is the filler plug not square or something? the other 2 were.

hmmmm... anyway, i filled up from the level plug and not much went in, i guess it was less than the manual says (0.35l).

anyone?

Yeah, it's quite strange. I was demonstrating to someone how older LRs have three plugs: drain, level and filler and on an older swivel there was no 'filler' plug, as you say. But at least you have the drain plug so you can get water out.

yer, im not sure if there was grease in there. there were lots of blobs of stuff. it didnt seem packed. anyway, i filled it with ep90 and will take it for a drive before checking again... can anyone else shed any light on this?

cheers jim.

Yeah they don't all have the 3 plugs, if not much went in chances are there is some grease in there. Get a twig or sumtin and poke it in the filler/level, see grease is present.

If there is grease in there, then you will have topped it up with EP90 which is not a bad thing as it better lubricates the upper half of the swivel.

mm! well my other 4 vehicles are 'on the road' and when i find a bit of time so will the landy. as its not anywhere near the top of my list of things to do it may take some time.. but then chassis up rebuilds usually do..
i could have gone out and bought one or two or three ready and legal, but that wouldn't have given me son any experience of landy mechanics and i bought it in bits for something to do. unfortunatly things change and its slipped down the 'must do 'list.
nevva fear it will be ready by july.

aherm...

might try and squeeze some more ep in there after some driving about. only rusty water and a few blobs of grease came out anyway. so its gotta be an improvement! think it will help turn my grizzly's miniman?

ffs yella, a stick would be no good. thats just asking for trouble

seeing as you boys have more than one landy. which one will you be taking to france?

can i expect to see some nice shiny challenge trucks :D or just the usual rubbish?

I used the grease gun to get it in. Got a empty cartridge and filled it then pumped it in that way. The end of the gun fits snug in the hole but ya got to let the air out every now and then....

i can vouch fer slob here, i dunt think he knows what a polished vehicle actually is ;)

as fer ther swivels, what is the point in 3 pliugs,
2 plug system
you take the level plug out, fill it till it pours out, replace it,

3 plug system, take the filler plug out, take the level plug out, fill through the filler plug until it pours out the level plug, replace the level plug, replace the filler plug

you decide ;)
