Hello everyone!

In December 2009 I bought a BMW 330i Touring. It is fast, frugal, stylish, comfy and reliable. However, my dog could use a dab more headroom. So I day-dreamed about a Volvo V70 and a Mercedes E320 but they have barely any more headroom than my current car. So then I fancied a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee - until I read that Ralph Nader (the American consumer champion) had persuaded the US transport authorities to review its post-crash fire performance. It is one of those rare designs where the fuel tank dangles off the back of the car. (Well, almost!). As it happens, I had a lucky escape - the Grand Cherokee appears to have an internal height of around 35 inches but the Discovery seems to offer in excess of 41 inches. Yippee!

Having decided that my next car should be a 2004 Discovery Premium, I thought I should join a good forum and learn as much as I can about them. My annual mileage is under 4,000 so a petrol is probably as sensible a proposition as a diesel. So I guess the first thing I will do is browse around to find out which of the engines is the most nightmarish! :D

Welcome.
It's always good to be able to give your dog a few extra inches.

I'm not absolutely certain if you typed that in a wholly innocent manner. :D

But yes, I always feel a bit bad stuffing my 60+kg rottie into the back of a low profile sports estate. And browsing around for the next car is just brilliant.

As you can see, I didn't get a Disco in the end. I still got 8 inches more headroom for my beloved dog, so I'm sure he'll be happy.

The Rangie got a good test drive - 130 miles to bring it home. Lovely ride. The car was immaculate on collection, but I was given a shortcut around Tunbridge Wells which involved a narrow twisting sludgy lane.

I have been enjoying reading loads of technical posts on here. I've also much enjoyed those threads which are entirely banter. Obviously, I don't clog up the forum by posting my thanks, but I'd like you all to know I really appreciate your sharing of knowledge as freely as you do.

Steven
