EAS - What's going on now?

Hi Guys,

Coming home last night, the car decided to sit very weirdly with the FL VERY high and the RR VERY low - actually grounding on the way home over big bumps. It eventually faulted with a pressure switch not changing state fault.

Been fiddling with it this morning and noticed that the height values for the FL have all reset to default values so I've spent the morning trying to get the correct values back in.

Finally got the bugger to accept them but it still sitting weirdly. Just measured all the corners and both the n/s corners are way too high, although the values in EAS are the same as they were when I calibrated it originally.

I just can't work out what's going on with it and what the hell has any of this got to do with the pressure switch fault reported last night?

How on earth can the values that were correct for these wheels before suddenly become completely incorrect or is there something else going on? It was fine on the way out last night. Just left it in a car park for a few hours and now this!

Thoughts anyone?

Late for work, but I don't think I can safely drive it like this.

Funny you should mention that - last night it seemed to be running an awful lot and was very hot when we got home.

I was going to disconnect it and try and test the air flow but thought I ought to get to work. Would a failing compressor affect random corners?

This morning it seemed to be running normally.

Got to work and the FL corner is too high again but only slightly - nothing like it's nonsense last night.

Has anyone managed to use the heights screen in EAS Unlock properly?
Having sent the car to various heights via the Calibrate screen, when I went to the Heights screen to check them, all four corners were reporting values different to those on the calibrate screen.
 
Have you checked the height sensors on each corner of the car, make sure they haven't become dislodged or anything?

No it would not, but it would account for the pressure switch fault, could have been pressure switch stuck open causing compressor not to shut off and over pressuring system. That maybe worth a thought.

Hi Mike,

I did have a look at the fronts and they seemed ok. I'll go over them all with contact cleaner this evening and lube the linkages.

I must say, I was expecting something to have dropped off or broken, given the suddenness of the problem. I thought at least one of the arms might be bent, but they're not on the front. Didn't think about the rears - I'll check them tonight.

I've had problems calibrating the heights on this before - the two front sensors require very different values to get the same height and that seems to upset the EAS. I was going to replace them, but they haven't given any problems since then (potentially until now).

My biggest problem with all this is that I don't have any level ground within range of an extension lead and the laptop battery only lasts 10 mins!

I was thinking last night that I must have a air leak on the RR, causing it to ssit on the bumpstop which would also cause the FL to be too high as well - that seemed to support the symptoms and would also account for the pressure switch fault and the compressor running too much, but no sign of one this morning.

I might be barking up the wrong tree with the calibration - it always gets upset when I play with that because of the mismatch between the two front sensors so that was probably wasted effort.

But, it's sitting in the car park at the moment, with all corners looking about right except for the FL which is too high again. Was fine when I left home!

Read a few weeks ago that on land rover air suspensions, that alot of faults that show up are caused be faulty sensor that is easily removed and disassemble, cleaned , sealed and reinstalled. they don't like water and dirt work inside to fail the sensor.

just did search of-- air suspension faults on land rover.co.uk and wikkie what ever showed up with info. hope it helps

The sensors cannot be easily dismantled, it's destructive. If it's clagged up inside it is because the shaft "O" rings have failed so the device is shagged anyway. I can post pictures if you like.:)

Guy, just washing the connectors with contact cleaner may not be enough, I had to clean mine with a bit of paper folded over a piece of thin metal soaked in contact cleaner and worked in and out of the contact socket:)

Cheers Keith. The good news just keeps coming:)! They're quite fiddly little sockets. Isn't there a risk of getting bits of paper stuck in it? I cleaned them all last time I had this little battle of wills with it.

I'll see how fed up I am with it when I get back from walking the dog - I think the EAS has booted out my values again and put it's stupid defaults back in for that wheel. Not sure why as they're all within the range of allowed values that Wammers posted a while back.

New ones are only £41 from Island. I might just buy a pair then at least they should agree with each other a bit better.

Still doesn't explain what happened to it last night though. I think it just doesn't like Farnham. Bad things always happen to it when it goes to Farnham (it's had 3 wheel centres nicked whilst parked there so far).

I don't mean push bits of paper in on their own, folded over the end of a length of flat metal it's like a little smooth file, soaked in contact cleaner it scrubs off hard corrosion that the cleaner alone will not touch.. I think my P38 is female and has PMT, it's had a spate of niggling little problems in the last few weeks including silly readings from the FL height sensor that caused it to fail it's CT due to the lights being aimed high:(

Damn thing was fine when I got home last night so I think I'll leave it til the weekend.
