Hi
Just recap regarding my understanding of the threads.
My old with Windows 7 and the driver installed on my old laptop was compatiable with my adaptor lead.
Now using a laptop with Windows 10 not sure what drivers are installed, looked on device manager but doesn't mean much to me.
So does anyone have a link for some driver software for Windows 10.....this still might not work because my lead might only work with Windows 7.
Is that about right?

That sounds plausible. Windows 10 is doing my head in, although it seems very similar under the covers.
No idea on drivers but can you search the adaptor manufacturer's website?

The lead is compatible with all versions of Windows, the adaptor may not be. I have just acquired a Windows 10 Tablet/notebook Just got the EAS software loaded but not the USB to Serial adaptor driver yet. I'm part way through loading Vehicle Explorer for Faultmate, should finish that today, I will then give an update.

Win 10 is indeed very similar under the skin to earlier versions even the X86/DOS stuff seems to still be there. It's just the names have been changed to confuse the innocent. The worst features are EDGE the new Microshyte browser, the persistent Cloud connection and the tracking. I have got rid of EDGE, Opera seems to be the best browser according to web reports and indeed it works well. I think I have disabled the Cloud, I will wait and see if it re-installs itself and I have the information to turn off tracking. Early days.

A bit more progress today, Faultmate Vehicle Explorer runs on a Windows 10 Home 64 bit V1903 Tablet/Notebook.
My USB to serial adaptor is a Prolific PL-2303XA/HXA. Prolific say this chip is not supported by Win 10 so they do not supply a driver. What the hell, nothing to lose so I plugged it in anyway, Windows reported that the chip is obsolete and then proceeded to install a driver that seems to work, at least I can access my Faultmate on the bench.
More testing tomorrow on the car if it's not raining.
As an aside, I have spent a day now turning off features I regard as undesirable, tracking, personalised adds, Cortana, and the cloud and a number of other things. Some feature have a habit of turning back on

Yes, I must have spent a day disabling all the tracking ****e and then it reenables in a slightly different form after each major update. Easier to just use Linux.
I liked Opera until it got heavy and started tracking everything. Firefox isn't bad at the moment although not as quick as Chrome.
