I have recently acquired a 1999 range rover 2.5 diesel automatic and am trying to sort out a few things.

After lots of mucking around with the EAS, i discovered that it was working fine but was not engaging due to doors and bonnet being open. Always read the manual.

However, now i have just replaced the internal fuel pump (the hard way) and now the EAS will not work (unrelated components but as soon as you fix one thing, something else stops working)

the pump is working but at about 5 seconds intervals, all of the lights inside the vehicle are on and functioning with no fault messages either. As I have said the EAS has been working correctly quite recently and I have not adjusted anything but now the vehicle is not rising, despite everything appearing to be working.

any suggestions?

thanks

Check you have not pulled the sensor plug or damaged the wiring to it at the right rear when you did the tank. Are the lights on the selector all on all the time?

to the right rear of the tank? what does the sensor plug look like?

A round plug and socket clipped into a holder mounted on the body. In between body and chassis member. You may have to take under arch splash guard off to get at it properly. You did not say if all the lights are lit all the time. Or is one lit and one flashing? When you switch on all the lamps should light then when engine is running one should be lit and the one for the selected height should be flashing. Which have you got?

the lights are working as they should. one solid light and a flashing for the selected height but it never seems to get there (continual flashing). i will have a look for the plug. all i recall is a pipe that is attached to the axle and the other end is bent into a u-shape. i have taken the arch splash guard to get to the pipes for the tank so perhaps i have moved something.

It shouldn't be the plug, if there was no connection to it you should get solid lights that is why i asked. Usual problem in this scenario is no air. Do the checks in my "How to" at top of page. Then get back with what you find.

the pump is generating air. all of the doors and tailgate are shut. when I first got the car the bonnet sensor was erratic but that is now fixed. there are no error messages on dash. but since being under the car sorting the tank which is close to the rear airbags it could be possible i have moved something, perhaps the height sensor. tomorrow i will put it up on sleepers and have look for anything that is wrong. The tank was such a pig to remove, that is all i was focused on.
thanks for your help, i will keep you updated

You have gone through the test as i describe in the "How to" then have you?

the pump is producing air. all the doors and tailgate are closed. i am curious that the height sensor is close to the fuel tank. the tank was a pig to take off and put back on and i didn't focus on much else whilst under the rangey. i will put the car back up on some sleepers tomorrow and make sure i haven't moved anything. Thanks for your help and i will let you know how i get on

So the compressor is producing air as i describe in the "How to" and you have checked the diaphragm valve is sealing then? That is all i need to know as a first step. If the sensor was faulty the car would start to rise and then throw a fault when the ECU found something it expected to happen did not. Sounds like it is not even trying to rise. Usually that is down to no air pressure.

i have had a look. The pump works only when manually switching the relay with its cover off. The pump is filling up the supply tank. Something somewhere is not telling the relay to engage thus not powering the pump. perhaps the system needs a reset with an EAS kicker or diagnostics? or a switch or sensor needs looking at? Everything else is working as it should.

Do you still have the fault message on the dash? If so the hard fault will need a reset before pump will work on its own.
Where are you?

The compressor will not run with a fault logged. You need to read the faults.

also, even with air in the tank after manually engaging pump the car does not raise. something is not letting the tank fill up the airbags.

so essentially there are 2 points of error.
relay not being activated and stored air not being sent to airbags

Do you not read? The suspension will not operate with a fault logged.
