Where do I start, Well just had 4 new dunlop air bags fitted on my 1998 2.5 DSE. They were fitted at an independant Land Rover specialist. I drove car home and noticed whilst stationary in traffic the front was dropping slightly and the compressor was starting so it leveled up. it keeps doing this now and the compressor is running every 15 seconds and getting so hot the thermal cut out activated. Went back to garage they put the fault tester on and came up no faults its all been calibrated don't know what else. The garage are baffaled and said they can only think it may be a height sensor but all showed ok on the diagnostics and no EAS fault in car display. Suspension was fine when I had the rear bags done last week but now front have been done its got this problem I have noticed when you park the n/s looks higher than the o/s. Does anybody know what the problem could be I'm baffeled and the garage don't seem to know . Before it had the 2 front ones fitted today the suspension was fine and worked perfect, I can still raise and lower the suspension no problems but when your stationary the front seems to lower and will not maintain it;s correct height thus compressor running and getting very hot. Help please its just cost me £350 for the lot to be changed. Could it be a height sensor I have just had the front radius arm bushed changed and I have been told the sensors attach some where on to this, I'm baffeled.

Sorry mate but -

You've just had two front air bags fitted and your front suspension is dropping and the compressor is running like fury. You're losing air, you've got a leak. Leaks don't show up as faults, they show up as bubbles in soapy water. Either do it yourself or get back to the garage.

Spot on doggy.:)

Forgot to say, when engine is switched off suspension does not seem to drop over night.
The problem seems to be when the engine is running. I have not done the soapy water check but can't hear any air escaping. I'm so confused as all the air bags are brand new dunlops. Car returning to garage tomorrow.

If the N/S is higher than the O/s there will be more pressure in that side. Every time you stop both front valves open to equalise pressure across the front axle, that will cause the front to drop slightly. Get the heights corrected and see what you get. It could also be a sensor giving wrong reading, if the sensor is giving the right reading in the wrong place, the ECU does not know that and will not register a fault. But your car will be high or low on that side. Have the garage damaged a sensor or sensor arm doing the job? If your car was fine before it went in it should be same coming out. No adjustment of heights is need after changing an air bag.

Thanks Wammers you been a great help. I am suspecting the height sensor may be the fault. I'm 99% sure there is no leak from the air springs. Like I stated you switch of and the usual happens when you get out and shut the door the suspension levels. As soon as I get back in and fire up the suspension inflates to correct height. I have sat there and watched what happens with the front level with my garage door as a height guide the suspension very slowly drops about 2 inches as soon as this happens the compressor starts and she inflates then drops again and the whole process repeats and the bloody compressor is getting very hot. When I switch off and get out I have also noticed the n/s wheel arch is some 3 inches hight than the o/s although this does seem intermittent. I have phoned the garage and they are going to change the front height sensors on a trial & error basis. I'm just hoping it is a sensor otherwise I am lost on what else it could be. As I said it was perfect before the front air baga were replaced, when I had the rear done last week no problems.

Just as an aside to this OP says compressor is running frequently to overcome this and getting very hot. The compressor should replace the small amount air being used very quickly indeed. Suggest you take a look at compressor maybe a bit weak. Possibly a new cylinder and piston seal required.
