eas laptop help

Ive got the lead that plugs in to the socket in the passenger footwell and have to use a usb to serial port adaptor to connect to my laptop, when i plug everything in the message '35mph' comes up on the dash but it doesnt seem to connect the software doesnt read anything, what am i doing wrong? what do i need to do?

Look at top left corner of eas box and you should see EAS setup i think it is....click on that and then select comms...it sounds like you are just on the wrong comm port. Mine is usually on port 4 or 5 depending on which usb socket i use.

tried that cant get no readings on any ports, lappy says needs usb ser driver but vista doenst need drivers for usb maybe the cable hasnt been wired right?

If you anywhere near sheffield you are welcome to use my eas stuff.

All the USB to serial adapters I have seen need a driver. Not used one on Vista. Have you got another serial device you could test the adapter with. I had problems with not all serial devices working with the cheaper adapters.

i havent got another serial adaptor no, a driver didnt come with the adaptor so im stuck

Vista is a nightmare, some USB to serial adaptors work with Vista, some don't, you will see other threads on this site and other sites where people have had the same problem. No problem with XP

im in b65 oldbury west mids, its definately a driver issue but cant find the right driver was hoping for a generic one but Nooo such thing

I'm just down the road in kidderminster i have my laptop working good with vista but i had a nightmare with the drivers for my usb to serial adaptor even tho i set drivers off the disc which came with mine so i found the manufacture of mine and downloaded the latest version from their site after i removed the current version off my laptop as before i removed windows told me it was up to date. It's strange tho mine would communicate with some hardware and not others. this cured my problems

Delete any installed drivers for the USB/Serial adaptor and the EAS Program> turn off/on computer,>then plug in the usb/serial adaptor lead and wait for it to see it. Now Start>Control Panel>System>Hard Ware>Device Manager. Now select the usb/serial adaptor> update driver from MS Vista.

A friend had the same usb/serial lead driver problem with a different slightly program, Vista's a real pain in the arse, but I'II bet its a driver update problem.

Reinstall the EAS Program and try again.
