Hi, got my 4.6 HSE running after replacing fusebox but now have a new problem. I changed fuel filter and set suspension to off road to get underneath. After this fuel gauge has started working again after staying on 3/4 since I have owned it not sure why.

Problem is that since selecting high suspension setting I now occasionally find that the air suspension does not raise after start up. low setting light stays constant and normal ride height light flashes continuously. This leaves me driving on bump stops. No dash messages and all doors and bonnet shut.

Does not happen all the time. Checked it after driving to Tesco about 3 miles and pulled relay and swapped. Relays where extremely hot. Suspension came back up to normal height with continuous light on correct setting about 1 mile into return journey.

Is this a common fault? I am guessing it's electrical as system is capable of operating normally and usually does. Have I put it into some kind of special mode? I pressed the button on the right of the height indicator when working on it to hold the setting.

Any help appreciated

What do you think will happen to you if suspension fails when you're under it:confused:

Sounds like you have a leak on storage side of system, i.e. tank etc.

^+1 and never venture under a air sprung vehicle without axle stands in place!
Leture over what does it do if you press the up button during this time?

So, it's trying to rise but no air pressure, if the bags are old, raising it may just have split one, otherwise as Wammers said.
Get it up the height and pull the EAS relay under the passenger seat and see if it goes down.

Will do thanks, in answer to what happens if bags fail I would have less room but can fit under it on bumps so not really an issue. You would have to be pretty fat to not fit under with bags deflated.

Air bags where all replaced last year before I bought it and on most trips it works ok.

Just jumped in and she went to correct setting in about 5 seconds went to full height in another 5 and stayed up with relay pulled. Guess it's just some kind of intermittent P38 naughtiness. Just thought it might be something I had engaged by using the hold button and ride selector in a certain sequence.

On your back may not be a problem but if it dropped when you were on your side, across your shoulders and hips you would be in some trouble. NEVER go under one unless it has a safety stand in place. NEVER go under a car on a jack unless a safety stand is in place. I have seen them come down on people it is not nice.

I thought a fellow bootneck would embrace the danger:). I would not recommend anyone else did it but as filter is near sill and I was well aware of the possibilities was quite happy to do this for what was a less than 5 minute job .

Remove the EAS exhaust silencer on the side of the EAS box towards the rear and check for white powder, then put your finger over the hole and check for air leaking out.
If it was a long time since it had been up to wading height it could just be sensors picking up crap as they moved to a new part of the track.

Yes I agree check your compressor pump they are known to play up in the cold weather when the seal is worn inside the pump .

Will do. It is working well again but would like to find the cause. Sounds likely to me as never put it up before and last owner did about 20 miles in 6 months due to electrical faults.
