P38A EAS faults

I have been here before on this one. It has all been behaving really well until today. All the lights have come on and the EAS Fault is on the message display, do not go over 35mph.

My OBD Code reader is only a generic one but I have three codes that I don't know what they are. PO1172, 1175 and 1667.

Are they anything to do with it? I can find no reference by Googling.

I have just one specialist nearby but I didn't find him very helpful.

The compressor is running but the whole car has now sunk to the bump stops.
Any clues?

Not yet, it's raining. I cannot hear any escaping air. I did wonder if the air tank is leaking as the whole thing is down, not just part of it.

OBDII code readers will not work on a P38. Other than some engine codes on the petrols. They cannot read your EAS. Look in the tech archives at my EAS post. P01172 and 75 refer to MAF sensor P01667 to injection system.

It is normal for the car to drop to the stops eventually when you get the error message.
You need RSW solutions EAS software + cable to read the faults and clear them.
The problem may be a leak but could just as easily be many other things from a height sensor to the driver pack and everything in between.

Thanks for that. Can you give me an idea how to find your tech archives. I have not been able to find them. Is there a reader that can read the codes? Where would I get one?

I can supply the EAS software & cable which need a laptop to run, otherwise get a Nanocom which will cover all the systems on your car.

The tec section is at top of the page do a search in that

What does the laptop need to run your software. My lap top is very old and not very good. it's running Windows 7 Enterprise. I don't use it very much? Also how much is your software?

Win 7 is fine, doesn't matter how old the laptop is, best if it has a serial port, if not a USB to serial adaptor will be needed.
A 2 metre EAS cable for the P38 allowing you to work outside the car, necessary when calibrating the heights, together with a CD containing the EAS software, EAS PDF, my Airbag Replacement Guide and a copy of RAVE covering P38, Defender and early L322 is £13.50 plus £6.00 P&P total £19.50 if you pay by cheque, or £21.00 if you want to use Paypal.

It needs a Windows laptop and if the laptop does not have a serial port you will also need to buy a USB to RS232 serial adaptor, these can be found for £10 or less on Ebay. Make sure you get one with a full RS232 implementation and the correct drivers for your version of Windows and load the correct driver BEFORE you plug in the adaptor.
The software reads and clears all EAS faults, allows you to send the car to all the different heights for calibration, see the actual height sensor readings, force the compressor to operate and de pressurise all circuits.
I normally post next working day after payment is received and it usually takes 3 to 5 days for delivery.

OK, I will think on that, thanks. I have a few clues of manual checks first to see if I can narrow it down without the need. If they fail I will be back.

Without diagnostics, as long as the slow 35mph is there, the EAS will not do anything.
I'm not bothered about selling the stuff, it's a not for profit operation done at cost.

Thanks for all your help and advice, I think that I am getting to grips with it now. Found your tech advice page and followed what it tells me. I did the compressor checks and it is weaker than a pump for pumping up a child's air bed. Hold it about and inch from my face and all I can feel is a gentle breeze, no problem holding my finger over the outlet. When I disconnected the blue pipe there was no air to escape.

So it's a new compressor then? I see that it has been rebuilt once already so I feel that maybe it wouldn't be wise to do it again.
