Hi, have a P38A and recently experienced (about 5 miles from home having just been shopping) a display on the dash “EAS FAULT”, cruised it very gently home, the following day nothing, been nothing for weeks then on Friday evening same thing, this time 200 miles from home and I had just loaded a large sack of dog food in the back. After a few miles I considered it could be something to do with the weight in the back! Pulled over and moved the sack of food into the front foot well, the display cleared and drove home no issues.

I presume there is a self levelling sensor somewhere, or some other suspension sensor that defines the extra weight…. Anyone have any ideas?

The extra weight compresses the air bags, this causes the sensors to move and read a lower than selected setting. The ECU then sends a signal to the driver pack to open the relivant valve/valves to inflate the air bag/ bags to return the height to it's preset position, thus leveling the vehicle. It would seem you have a dodgy sensor.

If you have a laptop, you need the EAS software and cable to read the fault codes and re-calibrate if you change a sensor:)

Hi Datatek, just found a link to a Storey Wilson software package of software and cable and instructions. Downloading the software and will go playing next weekend.

I appreciate the help and support.

I can supply the cable and the EAS software on CD for £11 + £2.67 P&P. You will need a USB to serial adaptor unless your laptop is old enough to have a serial port. You can get the adaptor from Maplin:) I also do a guide to changing the airbags.
