further to my whittering on on P38A EAS pressure won't rise over 105 psi - Page 2 - Land Rover Zone, and my unsuccessful searches on :googleit:, I wonder if any of yo Rangie peeps can help....

I have obtained a second hand EAS compressor, for prospective future use in an air locker system on my disco, but i want to find out what state it is in.
Bearing in mind I do not have any of the control electrics or air system, I cant check pressures easily (although I could connect it up to my air tools gauges, i suppose). Can it be run on its own, and which pins are used (there are 3??).
Has anyone got an easy test method to check if it is OK or not, or does it have to be checked on a propper test bed?
Does anyone have a simple test layout that I (and others) could use?

I have got a spare p38 air tank in the garage with a pressure gauge fitted. The way I test a compressor is to time how long it takes to pressurise the tank from empty to maximum pressure. I use a spare car battery for power.
A good compressor, one that has had new seals fitted for example, takes about 6 mins to fill the tank I have found. The compressor is however plumbed into a valve box when I do it. I haven't tested the high temp cut out.
You could wire the compressor direct as mentioned in the other post but I think you would need a p38 tank to test it. Unless anyone else has a better idea of measuring the compressor performance. I would put a non return valve and a manual shut off valve in the air line. Also it is potentially dangerous operation so precautions need to be taken.

Well Mad if you read other threads you would know, i put that on one very recently. Green is positive. Black is negative. Orange is for thermo switch. DO NOT connect it to power or you will burn the switch out instantly.

Thanks guys. I did search without any luck :(.
Is the orange a signal out wire to switch a relay or something?

Don't forget, I am only allowed in the posh bit with a minder ;).

Must have a look on Rave....

It provides a path from the negative side of the motor to the ECU to earth the switching pull down circuit for the compressor relay. If the thermo switch gets too hot it goes open circuit, shutting off relay pulldown circuit earth path. Stopping compressor operation until it cools down.

could yu use it as the ground path on the switching side of a relay, powering the compressor?

I have and suggested wammers that you look in your how to test Eas compressor guied . And to check the compressor that you want to test for compression as in the guide . So even if not fitted to car you would connect power with an alternative source and hey presto you can check The state of your piston and seal.
