eas air pump not working ?

hi to all, new to the forum so thought id treat you with my 1st problem :)

I have just reset the eas 35mph thing we all know and love with the lead and free software using my old 5 yr old latitiude laptop.. the eas reset and i now dont get the annoying beeps and slow 35 mph on the dash.. Great..
But..!

the air compressor will not kick in? the software allows you to turn the pump on and off.. this works ok so the pump is working as it raised the rear end ok then i pressed the dash button to lower it and it dropped to loading level, then opened the bonnet to have nose about and Ouch S**t thats hot.. the pump was really hot.. not sure whats happend here.. as i can remote start it through the software but wont work on its own? the led flashes on the height level as if the pump is raising but nothing working, the pump just gets very hot.. anyone got any ideas what could stop the instruction for the pump to not work? there are no eas faults and i have full trip computer access ect.

any info really greatfull :)
 
did you buy the cable etc from ebay? you ran the software and cleared the EAS Fault... but now you think the compressor is running all the time and wont switch off? ( explaining why it is hot?) or you think the compressor is just gettin hot by itself?
It may be you have a leak somewhere and the compressor is working a lot to recover the lost air pressure, did you do the leak test with soapy water in the usual places?
 
no the pump just gets hot but does not work, but when i tested the pump with the software the pump worked and pumped up the rear end ok. !
 
found out the problem :) thermo cut out in the pump was damaged so the power was still going to the pump causing it to get hot. when using the software this makes it work. but only for testing. as this bypasses the ecu sensors.
 
where is this thermostatic switch? How did it get damaged? Does the eas work ok now? did you have to run the eascalibrate software ?

If the thermal cut off (which is inside the compressor unit, smallest of the three wires going to the compressor) is damaged the compressor will not operate by commands from the EAS system. However it will work if it being forced by an actuator test from a computer.

hi, managed to sort out everything now.. also with help from Storey W. the author of the software i used..

I managed to order the Thermo part from USA for £2.75 + £4 postage last week but at the same time i bought a compressor that needed a piston seal for £30 and stripped it down and used the best and better parts for my one.. while having mine apart i noticed that the back cover has a copper bearing and was moving about and also cause the rotation of the motor to chew its way into the outer magnet.. i did wonder where all the black dust came from when it was opened :) anyway the pump i got worked it was just the rear casing i needed so drilled out the 4 rivets and swapped it over to my one. the piston and seal was fine on my own pump so this was used, also the cylinder that the piston moves up and down in was in really good smooth condition this also was kept, i solderd over the 4 rivets to keep the pcb in place on the rear cover put it all back together and i now have a fully working pump im just waiting to the part from USA to come and ill fit that at a later date or if this one gives up hope.

Hello,
I apologize for imposing with this e-mail. I am in San Diego California and have the same problem (1997 4.6HSE) as you faced with the EAS thermal switch. I have been searching for a supplier of the AIRPAX 67L125 but to no avail. All of them require a lead time of 60 days!

Would it at all be possible for you to pass on the name of the supplier where you bought the IC from? Many thanks in adavance..
 
hi sorry for not getting back to you sooner, i waited near 2 weeks from usa for that part but found someone on ebay selling them item no: 190240819181 give the seller an email asking the post time to you he sells worldwide so should no have a problem, I will also try find the seller in the usa where i got mine from also.. email me [email protected] if you need any help or if you get stuck changing the part let me know :)
